What Happens If You Cancel a Team Plan Mid-Year: The Real Maths
2026-09-14
Choosing an annual plan over a monthly one is a bigger commitment, so it's a completely reasonable question: what actually happens if you cancel partway through the year? Here's the real calculation Contract Scanner uses, in plain English rather than policy language.
The two numbers to start from
The Team plan costs £65.99/month, or £659/year if paid annually - a saving of roughly 17% over paying monthly for a full year. That discount is the whole reason an early cancellation isn't simply a twelve-way split of the annual price.
How the refund is actually worked out
The refund is: the annual amount you paid, minus the standard monthly price multiplied by the number of months you've used - including the calendar month you cancel in, which always counts as a full month used, whatever the date. The annual discount is not applied retroactively to those consumed months; it only ever reduces what a full year would have cost you.
A worked example
Cancel after five full months, and the value of the months already used is 5 × £65.99 = £329.95. The refund on a £659 annual payment would be £659.00 - £329.95 = £329.05.
Cancel one month later instead - during the sixth calendar month - and that month now counts too: 6 × £65.99 = £395.94, giving a refund of £659.00 - £395.94 = £263.06. The one extra month makes a real difference, which is exactly why the policy treats the cancellation month as consumed rather than pro-rating down to the day.
Where this stops making sense
Once the value of the months you've used reaches or passes what you actually paid for the year, no refund is due from that point on - the same principle behind most annual subscriptions, just spelled out here with real numbers rather than left vague.
The first 14 days are different
Separately from all of the above, UK consumers have a 14-day cooling-off right on most online subscriptions under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013 - simpler rules can apply if you cancel within that initial window. The full legal detail, including that cooling-off right, lives on our Returns & Cancellation Policy page - this post is a plain-English walkthrough of the real numbers, not a replacement for reading it.
